Very Rare Boar War/WW1 Naval (Gunnery Officers) Version of Clarkson Extending Telescope. All Original Condition & in Excellent Condition. 3 draw = 4 sections, max length approx. This is an absolutely gorgeous antique Clarkson Extending Naval Gunnery Officers Telescope (much rarer than the Army version of this telescope) from the end of the Boar War or the beginning of World War One. The rich colour to the leather can only ever be obtained with a century and more of patina and to an experienced eye this deep richness cannot be copied. It comes with its original leather shoulder strap and lens caps, with the extending sun guard at one end and at the other a fully working eye lens sliding cover/closure. You can see this is just an amazing piece that is historically important and has quite a story tell if we only knew how to listen. Even so it is a wonderful survivor and I have had the leather treated with bees-wax to stop it drying out, as the strap was becoming particularly vulnerable to this form of degradation. Other than this it has only been cleaned sensitively, as my regular customers know I do not interfere with original, genuine, authentic pieces of history, especially when they have been part of such significant and tragic periods in our past. Collapsed the telescope is approx. 26cms and fully extended approx. It is an incredible piece and work, retail, twice my asking price, and if looked after will increase in value as it gets older. This is a serious piece of antique history that any serious military collector would love to have in their collection.
