PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY OTHER ITEMS FOR MORE MIDDLE EASTERN / ISLAMIC ITEMS. For sale we have this breathtaking large antique Persian brass tray dating from the mid – late 19th century during the Qajar era. It has been hand chased with stunning work, depicting the battle of Karnal between Nader shah and Mohammad Shah. The battle of Karnal was a very famous and important battle in history which occurred in the year 1739. Nader Shah who was the founder of the Afsharid dynasty had attacked the Mughals led by Muhammad shah and had remarkably defeated them within 3 hours. Nader Shah was a miltary mastermind of his time. He defeated the Mughal army of Muhammad shah despite being outnumbered six – to – one. The breathtaking tray has been hand chased beautifully depicted the battle. There is stunningly high level of detail. This scene is rare to see hand chased on metal works. It is normally documenting in manuscripts, however to find a the battle portrayed on a brass tray is very rare! Nader shah was one of the most powerful rulers and was a military genius. I highly recommend you read up on him, as well the battle of Karnal, along with Muhammad shah. There is very fine floral work hand chased all around the four edges of the tray too. This has also been completed to the same high standard as the central scene. The length of the tray 54cm = 21.3 inches. The width of the tray is 37cm = 14.3 inches. The tray is in very good condition. A couple of very minor (tiny) dings, nothing serious. Overall very good condition. Please see the photos shown above.
