Production limited to 20 units (16 of 20). CR Road # 4118 has superb detail inside and out in a large road engine (prototype is 80ft 2in length which is about 11 inches in length in HO scale). CR SD80MAC f/p Conrail blue/white, white “Conrail Quality” lettering, lights, ditch lights, shut off switch for the lights via the top exhaust stack, full cab interior, parts bag. Consolidated Rail Corporation, commonly known as Conrail (CR) took effect on April 1, 1976 by combining the Penn Central Transportation Company and Erie Lackawanna Railway. CR received 30 units from General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD). The SD80MAC’s where know as the “Whisper Cab” because the dynamic brakes where placed at the rear of the locomotive making the Cab much quieter for the operators. Conrail’s fleet of EMD SD80MAC’s were painted in an exclusive scheme to distinguish them from other units. They were painted in Conrail Blue with a white nose band and “Conrail Quality” on the sides.
