Art Deco Mansfield Beauty Academy Hair Styling Award brass 12-1/4 large VERY RARE. For your consideration is this very rare Art Deco Mansfield (Massachusetts) Beauty Academy award for creative hair styling. It is what I believe to be brass though might be bronze. It measures 12-1/4 diameter and weighs a little over 3 lbs itself. Was made in Korea so likely after the actual Art Deco era but definitely in that style. I thought I photographed the Korea mark but on the back but apparently missed it. I looked far and wide can could find no other examples. A great item to add to either your Art Deco collection or if you have ties to Mansfield Beauty (they were founded in Boston in 1909 and still in business). In overall very good vintage condition. Some minor scratches and marks and a few spots/areas with some surface oxidation, mostly on the outer rim area. It will weigh about 4-5 lbs packed safely. History of Mansfield Beauty. Schools has a history dating back to 1909 at 125 Tremont Street, Boston. Katherine Mansfield, was a practicing chiropodist who on a pleasure trip to Paris, France, had been exposed to innovations in hairdressing. Upon her return, she started giving demonstrations and lectures. Thus, the humble beginnings of Mansfield Beauty Schools. In 1955 our expansion began, with many locations including Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1958, and Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1962. In 1981, Mansfield Beauty Schools, under the ownership and vision of Daniel and Helene Dorian, became independent of the other schools and continue today in that vision.
