Bach Stradivarius 311 F/G Trumpet – Very Nice, Near Mint. This is a great horn- terrific in a Chamber Music or Solo setting. A joy to hold, look at, and play. Tony Plog told me he used a G trumpet to record the Telemann Canonic Suites with a flute because of its delicacy and ability to blend with the flute. That recording was a game-changer for me and refined what the trumpet was capable of. The Brandenburg 2 and Vivaldi Concerto for 2 trumpets used to be played on horns like this before Maurice Andre popularized the piccolo. It has a darker sound than the piccolo which actually can be more pleasing. If you are versed in transposition, this horn could be used in all the settings that the piccolo is but will provide a darker sound. The horn has been modified with a Pilczuk Accusonic lead pipe to assist in intonation and centering. If you are not familiar with these lead pipes, they consist of multiple cylinders of varying diameter that correspond to the different nodes of the chromatic scale. The theory is each note with resonate better in its corresponding cylindrical pipe rather than a smoothly tapered pipe. Pilczuk passed away but the patent is now owned by the Brass Instrument Workshop out of Marietta, Georgia. There are a few minor scratches or blemishes in the lacquer on the horn (see pictures) but besides those, it is really in superb, near-mint condition for a horn of its age. The serial number is 128707 that corresponds to being made in the late 70’s, in Elkhart, Indiana. All slides are free and move smoothly, as do the valves, and everything has been greased and the valves oiled with Hetman’s. The horn is ready to play. Note that it takes a cornet shank mouthpiece, similar to some modern piccolo trumpets. Also, in case it is not clear, there are two sets of pipes- F and G (see picture). Sometimes these horns only come in one key. This one, however, has both sets of pipes, making it more versatile. Reasonable offers will be considered. It’s important to me that this horn find a good home. The item “Rare Bach Stradivarius 311 F/G Trumpet Very Nice, Excellent Condition” is in sale since Sunday, April 19, 2020.
