Baltimore MD60W-2b R-8 NGC XF-45 Mount Vernon Club very rare reverse die
Civil War Store Card for Mount Vernon Club in Baltimore, Maryland. Fuld MD60W-2b (brass) R-8 XF-45 Very rare reverse die 1092A, this token slabbed prior to 3rd edition store card book as MD60A-2b. The Mount Vernon Club obtained store card tokens from an unidentified token maker. Two custom dies were each combined with separate stock reverse dies and tokens were struck only on brass planchets. Both varieties are very rare. The reverse die used to strike this token is also a very rare Civil War store card die. Its only other use was to strike tokens for the Shakespeare Club, also located in Baltimore. Two Shakespeare Club token varieties struck from the 1092A die are known, one extremely rare and the other unique. This token was slabbed prior to the publication of the 3rd edition store card book, so the attribution on the slab label is the attribution in use prior to the 3rd edition.
