The product is a very rare vintage Danish brass mariner barometer made in Germany. This unique piece is crafted from brass and is a valuable collector’s item for those interested in metalware. At the rear of the barometer, there are several inscription. Which the year 1906. The clock runs like an engine! In general, this set is very impressing. I cleaned and restored every single part, in- AND outisde! The ticking of the clock sounds like an engine…. Is in a great condition. Glass windows in front of the barometer and. Clock, without mentionable imperfections. On the dial of the clock you find the time in Black, Roman. The dial is also divided into 60 partitions; for each minute one. Partition, making this piece a very precise instrument. It comes with a Paper dial with a CANDLE WAX finish original. The hands of the clock and barometer come in black metal. The Barometer has a scale in German, telling you the condition. Of the weather, in writing and Arabic numbers. Overall this object is in a very good condition but it is not new. A very unusual antique French aneroid barometer clock by Bourdon & Richards, Paris, No 539 c1882. Barometer clock constructed principally in brass and having 4½ stepped printed enamel dial by Bastet, marked with standard meteorological terms “Stormy, ” “Much Rain, ” “Rain, ” “Change, ” “Fair, ” “Set Fair” and “Very Dry, ” barometric scale calibrated in inches with a range from 28-31, divided to 20ths of an inch. The dial bottom bearing the legend “Metallic Barometer” and twin medallions: to the left, World Medal Exhibition 1849, E. Bourdon and Richards Patent Paris, ” to the right “Universal Exhibition London 1851, Council Medal. Port with winding square set beneath a swing-open bezel with heavy bevelled glass and gilt brass telltale. Heavy drum form case with extension and suspension ring, the verso with bevelled glass removable push-fit cover. The compensated Bourdon movement with 4 diameter semi-circular elliptical section pressure sensing body acting on levers and a rack, with push-and-turn setting system, the backplate struck with movement no. The 8-day clock with good quality platform escapement and going barrel, backplate struck with serial no. Inset roman chapter ring, lacquered brass reflector ring, blued steel spade hands. This is a very unusual instrument: these barometer clocks are very rarely encountered and usually found with a diameter of 5¾. The barometer setting mechanism is novel indeed, and a great simplification from the standard key and interrupter found on most examples. A very collectable rare lacquered brass Weather Watch pocket barometer in original leather case by Negretti & Zambra, No R/5267, c1925. Weather watch pocket barometer with 2″ tri-concentric silvered dial, the outer section calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28″31″, at 29½” marked “Sea Level, ” the lower portion with settings for “Direction of Wind, ” the inner rear dial with letter codes visible through three semi-curved rectangular windows cut into the centre forward dial positioned at 3, 6 and 9 oclock, further marked with altitude correction scale “+/- 500FT, ” ” N&Z ” monogram, “Patent 6276/15, ” serial no. ” R/5267 , ” and signed in full by the maker Negretti & Zambr a. Fine blued-steel pointer set beneath bevelled glass. Rotating bezel, enabling setting of wind direction and causing interpretation codes to alter in the three windows. The case circumference with altitude correction scale from 0 – 3,000ft; rear section may be turned causing the whole movement to turn within the case, thus altering the position of the pointer relative to the dial. Verso of the case with compensation screw set at 7 o’clock and letter codes set to forecasts. The centre dial rotated via the crown. The movement driven by a single capsule with bimetallic compensation. All contained within its original dark ox-blood Moroccan leather over wood and green velvet lined case with celluloid disc in lid marked with letter codes set to forecasts. The dial with some minor losses, the gilt brass case retaining much of its original lacquered finish. The suspension loop a replacement. The travel case restored, the celluloid disc with a hairline crack. Crisp overall and functioning correctly in all respects. To use the weather watch, first note whether the barometric pressure is steady, rising or falling. Then set the station altitude using the circumferentially-marked scale and rotating the rear of the case aligning the index point the correct station height. Note the direction of wind by rotating the bezel so that the arrow for wind aligns with the correct compass cardinals. Finally, read from the window marked “Fall” “Steady” or “Rise” as appropriate – the letter shown can be then related to the forecaster messages on the rear of the pocket barometer or on the celluloid disc. Marketed as an especially sensitive aneroid barometer, the movement was manufactured to provide a greater degree of accuracy than standard. These instruments are seldom seen and have achieved a near cult status amongst collectors. Certainly produced as early as 1915 and probably remaining in production into the 1930s, modest numbers were produced. There is no doubt as to the collectability of this fascinating weather watch.
