Here we have a VERY RARE early 20th century Scottish long arm angle protractor with MICRO adjustment by ALEX MABON & SONS of GLASGOW. This is a wonderful quality scientific instrument made specifically for the mining industry. It comes with the original mahogany box with metal makers plate inside. Alex Mabon & Sons were the leading supplier of mining instruments in Scotland in the early 20th century, carrying a range of high quality instruments including theodolites, surveyors compasses and protractors. This specific instrument was used to work out the side angle of large scrag heaps to make sure the angle was not too steep to allow for collapse after various mining disasters associated with scrag heaps. This particular version of the tool with the micro adjustment is particuarly rare. Taken from the massive collection of tools we currently have in stock. There is so much of it. This exquisite measuring tool represents the height of craftsmanship in the early 19th century, showcasing the skill and attention to detail for which English instrument makers were renowned. This item was used to measure volume in the 19th century. This Wantson ruler, was made with wood featuring brass hinges to fold the ruler up. This was an essential tool for architects, engineers, and craftsmen of the time. It embodies the elegance and functionality that were hallmarks of J.
