Genuine Very Rare Walkers Sounding Machine Antique Maritime Nautical.. The Hapoon sounding machine is a brass depth log that worksby counting the revolutions of the rotoras the log is lowerd to the seebed. There are 2 dials. One reading 0-30 fathomsthe other 0-150 fathoms. The rotor is free to rotate as the log is lowered but when the lin is drawn up the rotor is locked to give the accurate depth. The lead line was used untill the invention of the sounding machine like this one and was superseded by the echo sounder in the 20th century. This one dates from about 1860 at over 160 years old it is in grat condition and would polish up beautifull if requied. This item is in the category “Antiques\Marine/Maritime”.
