Technical and Historical Description: Rare 1920s Carl Zeiss Military Tripod. This exceptional and highly robust antique military tripod is a rare piece of precision engineering dating back to the mid-1920s. Built to withstand demanding field conditions while providing rock-solid stability, this tripod showcases the masterful utilitarian design characteristic of early 20th-century military hardware. Premium Hardwood: The legs are meticulously crafted from dense, weathered structural hardwood, featuring deeply grooved fluting along the lengths to reduce weight without compromising structural integrity. The wood exhibits a beautiful, authentic patina earned over a century of age. Heavy-Duty Brass and Bronze Fittings: The structural brackets, leg bands, mechanical locks, and the entire head assembly are constructed from high-grade solid brass and bronze. These components show a magnificent, unpolished aged finish, highlighting the rugged military-spec durability. Adjustable Ball-and-Socket Joint: The defining feature of the tripod head is its sophisticated, integrated adjustable ball joint (articulación a bolilla). This mechanism allows for fluid multi-axis leveling and panning, enabling the operator to swiftly level and orient the mounted equipment on uneven terrain. Universal Instrument Mounting: Crowned with a substantial, central mounting spindle, the head is designed to securely anchor a wide array of vintage military, geodetic, or observational apparatuses-such as rangefinders, large binoculars, theodolites, or periscopes. Quick-Release Locking Levers: The head mechanism is controlled by heavy-duty, ergonomic brass locking levers that provide immense clamping force with minimal effort, ensuring the instrument stays perfectly locked in place. Adjustable Extension Legs: The telescoping wooden legs are reinforced by thick brass bands and secured by heavy thumbscrews at the lower sections. When fully extended, this imposing tripod can comfortably exceed 180 centimeters approx. 5 feet 11 inches in height, providing an elevated line of sight for field observations. The legs terminate in rugged, spiked metal feet designed to anchor firmly into soil, ice, or rough terrain. Summary of Condition and Rarity. This tripod stands as a magnificent testament to Carl Zeiss’s legendary manufacturing standards. It remains in an excellent, fully operational state of preservation, with all mechanical linkages, adjustment levers, and joints moving smoothly. It is a highly collectible centerpiece for enthusiasts of military militaria, antique surveying instruments, and historic optical history. THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT.

According to extensive research, this piece seems to be a very rare one. Produced sometime in the early 20th century by the renowed AG Thornton Ltd. Appointed to contractor to Her Majesty’s Government during the early 20th century, Thornton excelled in the design and development of new drawing equipment with many patents and design awards. This rare piece has no patent number on it, it may be a proto-type. Missing a srew on one side, otherwise in fantastic condition for it’s age. Measures: 10cm x 10cm.

This is a very rare, original US Army-issued camel bell. The brass bell is in excellent+ condition, has a mellow patina, measures 3 3/4″ wide at the base, and is about 3 1/2″ tall, including the brass strap loop. The original clapper is intact. There are raised designs of three Federal eagles, stars, sunbursts, etc. It has a clear, long resonating ring, like no bell I have heard before. This bell is identical to one in the Fort Tejon Museum, in Southern California, where camels were posted. Original camel barns are still standing at Benicia Army Barracks, near San Francisco. This is an Army Transportation Museum website which shows a photo of a camel bell and gives a history of the camel experiment. The use of camels was suggested by Secretary of the Army, Jefferson Davis. The Civil War helped kill the idea. I guarantee that it is original, and as described.

This is a unique piece of history that was made so well it is still very usable. The belt itself is 44″ long, 1.5″ wide at the belt, and 5 wide at the bag part. There are five 5 pouches that close with a leather strap and steel ball closure. The pouches fold out like a paper bag when full. The belt buckle and closure hook are made of brass, as is the spring coded hook. There are two steel loops on the top that each are sown slightly sideways towards a persons sides. This belt is made of thick patterned leather and sturdy heavy stitches. This belt was made with true craftsmanship.
