Here is a pretty rare little oiler. It is a Powell Pointer swing top. You really just don’t see Powell swing tops. Overall, in very good condition with some minor wrench marks on the base that you would certainly expect to see on something 100 + years old. Very early and rare Nunn brass oiler for early stationary gasoline or steam engine. Measures roughly 6 1/2″ x 3″. Has “Nunn Mfg Roch, NY” on rim of the oiler lid. Has “No 35″ and Pat. Feb” , “5 – 89 on the bottom of the oiler. Lid has a cover with nice solid handle that rotates to open two fill holes on open sides of the oiler lid. Oiler has a very unusual and neat mechanism for adjusting the valve-stem. The top rotates and the lower end of the top has a series of notches with numbers. A vertically moving spring-actuated catch, which is seated within a chamber formed in the bottom of the oiler cover, engages the notches and thus indicates the positioning of the valve stem as the top is rotated. This design was patented by Charels H. Nunn on Feb 5, 1889. A copy of these patent papers is included with the oiler. Overall, excellent original condition with very nice patina. Hex is stamped – Pat. 5 – 89″, and “No. There are other stamps on 2 more of the hex flats that I can’t decipher. I have added a photo of the patent papers for this oiler that will be included with the oiler. The top knob of the needle valve is adjustable with a notched rim and a spring loaded ratchet pin, and the notches are numbered 1 thru 10. On the top there is also a rotating filler hole cover. Early reservoir glass is cut and ground on both ends. Another oiler with cast machined brass, not cheap stamped out pieces. Quality made in the USA 130 years ago. It measures 6 1/2 inches high. The glass reservoir measures 2 3/4 inches high by 2 1/2 inches in diameter. It weighs close to 2 pounds. That gives you an idea of the quality of this oiler. 1/2 inch NPT thread.
