The lens consists of four elements, two of crown glass, two of flint, uncemented, and with an air space in both front and rear combinations. Introduction of a certain calculated degree of desirable aberration as well as change of focal length is accomplished by means of varying the air space thickness between the two front elements. The lens came in two models, Series A, with a maximum aperture of f/3.8 and Series B, with a maximum aperture of f/4.5. It is a lens that was able to do any task. You can shoot it wide open at F3.8 as a tack sharp portrait anastigmat (compared to the Taylor Hobson Portrait Anastigmat Series II). Or you can use it as a soft focus lens. You can also change the FL to some degree from 14″ to 16″. Its a very special lens and it might take some time to grasp all of its potential, but if someone does the homework, it can be a great compagnion for life. The lens has a focal lenght of 360mm – 400mm (14″ – 16″) and does cover anywhere from 5×7 to 8×10 formats with a smooth and wonderfull bokeh. Condition: This lens comes in a good condition. The brass shows only minor wear and is fully functional, the aperture works smoothly, as does the soft focus mechanism. The glass here is in really good condition, there is a tiny scratch on the rear element, but that wont affect the optical abilities at all, the glass is very clear. This beauty is does not only offer the nice looks, but also the great optical abilities for portraiture and pictorial work. The lens comes with a fitting flange and selfmade front and rear lenscap. The lens is in great condition, without mold, mildew, or fungus and comes with one waterhouse stop with an unknown aperture, but the opening is about 1 3/4 across on the opening of the stop. There is no lens cap. The camera is in excellent condition, but untested. I tried to add as many photos, but if you need something specific, I’ll be happy to do so. History: The Dallmeyer Bergheim Soft Focus lens is little bit like a myth between very expert large format shooters and collectors alike. Back then it was a collaboration between Dallmeyer and the famous artist Bergheim. It was a bold concept of a picturealistic portrait lens with a soft focus and FL control. It was quite expensive and was produced only in small numbers, thats why there are only a few speicmen which suirvived the decades and very very rare on todays markets. This might be your chance to try this one of a time lens on your camera. Condition: The brass looks very nice here, there is minimal to no wear. The glass is an absolule great condition, minimal specs maybe, but nothing that would make one worry. The lens features a aperture in the front which is a bit stiff, but still working.
