Well preserved dry card and gimbaled brass tell-tale compass. The compass can be read on both sides. The top side with a normal rose serves as a steering compass. On the other side, the tell-tale rose is printed in mirror image. It is probably meant to be read by means of a mirror. Both roses are covered with mica. Mica was in use for this purpose until the beginning of 1800. This, and the construction of the compass house. Give the idea that this is a 18th century compass.
