Since you provide no proof that this tool was made by WM&Sons I can tell you that this’level’ was made by a few other manufacturers. In the 1909 WMSons Catalogue it is listed as Item# 2306’Best Spirit level, with Plumb and Field Sight’. I believe it was therefore used as a Surveyors implement. They were offered in 8, 9, 10 and 12 inch lengths. I have a couple of them. Your example shows that both’glasses’ contain clear fluid and this says that they are all original!
