Antique Steamer Trunk Very Rare Long Lock Pat APLD For Trunk Lock. Military
Unique Steamer Trunk Rare Long Lock Pat APLD For. This is an incredibly rare antique steamer trunk. It features one of the pre patent Long Mfg Co long lock trunk locks. The patent was applied for March 9, 1926. And the patent was issued January 3, 1928. Meaning this lock was made between those dates. Long trunk locks are still in use today. And are arguable the most recognized name in trunk locks. And this trunk has one of the first locks in this long rich history of trunks locks. I have only found the Pat APLD for locks on one occasion and it was the just the lock not on a really rad antique trunk like this. And I haven’t found any that are on a trunk. If they are out there they are hard to find. Which in my opinion makes this trunk that much more awesomer. The trunk is in the military footlocker style. It has beautiful patina and just the right amount of wear to make this piece a great addition to any collection. The evidence of this trunk being hand made is shown in the uneven tack spacing. Which begs the question is this trunk one of a kind? The shelf has the original paper lining part of a tag is also in the shelf. There is the remnants of a Dennison tag attached to one of the leather handles. As well as small parts of the vulcanized fiber Indian head logo and one other logo or sticker that is not discernible. The lock, latches and hinges all function well. Because of its age and what it was used for. It does have scuffs, scratches, patina and general wear. But no major damage. No holes, tears or large cracks. The shelf has a small split from where one of the tacks was hammered in. It’s appears to be from the original assembly. I can send more photos upon request. Rest assured this trunk is one cool piece of history. This was prior to learning about APLD and that mfg would have been in the 1920’s. It was presumed to be from the 1950’s. Turned out to be close to 30 years older. If you have any question please ask. This item is in the category “Antiques\Furniture\Trunks & Chests”.
