Up for your consideration and review is a listing for an N Scale Brass. Fulgurex SNCF Class 231 Pacific in Green Livery Model. Aquitaine, France a couple of years ago Locomotive has never been of its original box or operated while in my possession except for testing. If you are looking at this listing you are probably an experienced collector and don’t need much introduction to Fulgurex and this level of model railroading. The locomotive motor did not operate while testing in both DC and DCC. I have included in this listing a replacement new premier motor replacement by Sagami (also no longer readily available) motor which should fit the loco although I did not open the tender to take exact measurements. If you do not have the experience, skills, tool set and work environment to replace the original motor with the one provided, it is highly recommended to have a professional model railroad shop or person do it. I did not do the installation of the new motor because of my eyesight and I no longer do this type of work on collection. With regards to the prototype, the following is paraphrased from the original Fulgurex advertising. During the early 1930’s the French Nord Railway carried out comparison evaluations of the running qualities of their third series of Super Pacific’s with Pacific (4-6-2) type locomotives from the Paris Orlean, (PO) Railway and Mountain types (4-8-4) from the EST and Paris, Lyon and Mediterranean, (PLM) Railway. The outstanding qualities of the PO Pacific were soon recognized and an order for twenty locomotives were placed. After minor modifications were made, the locomotives were put into service on the NORD Railway. The locomotives quickly proved themselves in service, and in 1935/1936 additional orders were placed with private companies for the construction of both locomotives and tenders; Ateliers de Construction du NORD de la France A. Blanc Misseron for the locomotives and Societe des Usines et Fonderies de Baume et Marpent for the tenders. The first eight locomotives, numbered 3.1191 through 3.1198, were developed in 1936. This was followed by twenty others during the short period 1937/1938 bearing numbers 3.1111 through 3.1130. These locomotives are fondly known as “Chapelon NORD” to locomotive enthusiasts throughout the world and are rightly regarded as masterpieces of locomotive design. This locomotive could be seen often with the famous consist of the Paris to Istanbul Orient Express. With regards to the model, this extremely limited model of one of France’s most famous locomotives. Fulgurex extensive attention to detail and fidelity to the prototype design and decoration. The 231 is handmade out of brass with extensive detail. A full cab interior, spring loaded puffers, extensive exterior details with superlative professional paint finishing. I also did not replace the motor, since I intended at best to just keep it as a collection piece and display with my other prize brass locomotives. I also have for sale a Rivarossi Collection of Orient Express passenger cars which in my book are the most accurate in N scale available. I have continued to search for another to determine availability without success. Even with the issue of the motor replacement, this locomotive is still a rarity and highly sought after collector’s piece. In this description and the pictures of this listing.
