Very Rare Baker & Oven Brass Lamp withCigar Cutter, Cigar Holder & Match Safe
This is a very rare brass figural lamp with a baker boy holding a serving tray standing next to an old style industrial oven; this is also a cigar cutter, cigar holder and match safe or holder. The brass has a very old patina on it. I cannot find a maker’s name nor mark (if you know who made this I would appreciate if you’d let me know). The baker boy’s tray has a match safe or holder that’s in the form of either a dessert or cake? The match holder is approximately 2″ deep by roughly a 1″ opening at the top. The baker boy is approximately 6 tall, is solid (not hollow) brass, is attached to a solid wood base (I believe) which is painted black – the figure moves slightly. The tray that the baker boy is holding is round overall with curved edges (the right most one has a slight downward bend). The match holder (on the tray) has a hinged lid which is strong and opens almost 180 degrees. This could easily hold an old style small box of wooden matches. The baker boy is standing to the right of an old industrial style baking oven with four doors and lined outer walls that make it look like stone construction, but it is entirely made of brass. The large and small doors on the right side of the oven are figural only and do not function. The smaller sized door on the left side of the oven is actually a drawer with a functional lever that slides into the clasp for locking purposes. This drawer is removeable and is obviously for catching the cigar cuttings. The cuttings drawer is approximately 2″ by 1.5″. The larger top door on the left side of the oven does not open, but is a functional cigar cutter. As you can see in the photos, the lever and cutter move freely and are spring loaded which allows the lever to return to its original position. The hole (or ring size) for the cutter is approximately 0.25 in diameter. The stove top portion of the oven shows two sides. The right side is figural only and does not open. The left side is a door with a knob for opening. As you can see from the photos, when that door is open, the inside compartment is all brass and is approximately 5.5″ long by 3.125″ wide by 2.25 deep at the lowest point of the inner curve. This is where the cigars are/were stored. The door opening is 2.75″ by 3.125″. The door is hinged and strong. The oven is firmly attached to the black base and is approximately 5.75″ long by 4.825″ wide by 3.375 tall. The black base, which I believe is some type of hard wood is approximately 8.5″ by 4.75″ (but it arches outward in the rear, so it is almost impossible to measure that furthest point). The base is stepped at the very bottom and the lower step dimensions are approximately 9″ by 5.25″ (again, it arches outward around the back). The left front corner of the step portion of the base has a very small 0.375 scratch. The back side of the step portion of the base, behind the baker (out of sight) has a very small 0.125 flake and to the left of the wiring hole (again, in back, out of sight) is an even smaller flake. I mention all of this for accuracy. The corners and edges of the black base have very slight wear. The bottom of the base is covered in green felt. The lamp tower is strong, old-style brass and is well constructed with older, premium Leviton light sockets. The lamp tower is approximately 18 tall (including the base). There is no lamp shade, however, both sockets work when you screw in a light bulb. Both chains turn the light(s) on and off; in excellent working condition. The cord is the older style, with no ground, but is in very good shape with no breaks. Just to mention this again, except for the base and cigar compartment, this is solid brass – not hollow. It is heavy and weighs approximately 8 lbs. Check out my other auctions, please.
