I obtained these bookends from an estate. They are in vintage good condition. The male bookend has come loose of its rivet connection but is still connected and very useable. It just swivels a bit. I didn’t want to try to fix it for fear of further damage, see pic. This in no way detracts from its appearance or usefulness. Designer: Karl Hagenauer, Art Deco era Austrian designer. In 1918, brothers Karl and Franz Hagenauer took over their father’s metalworking business and led the esteemed Viennese workshop to international acclaim. Their timeless designs helped shape the aesthetics of 20th-century decorative arts. Today, objects from Werkstätte Hagenauer are highly sought-after collector’s items, with particular demand for the hand-hammered sculptures. Characteristic features include elegant, flowing forms, often accented with playful details, and the use of materials such as brass, copper, alpaca silver, and exotic woods.
