Rare Folding Arm Vernier Brass Plotting Protractor by J. Davis Derby approx 1890 drawing instrument surveying. In 1863 John Davis moved to Derby and made Theodolites. Surveying Dials Miners dials and vernier Protractors this one dates approx 1880 This folding arm protrator. A six inch diameter brass with silver insert scale, the folding arms are suppoted by springs when extended and have protracting pins at ther ends for accurate plotting. The protactor is adjusted by rotating a pinion which acts on a rack arounr the periphert of the instrument the box is solid mahogany beutiffully made with cross band top and bottom The Protactor is in exelent condition considering is age woul polis up lovely.
